The Whiteley Clinic introduced non-surgical varicose vein treatments in the United Kingdom when its founder, Professor Mark Whiteley, performed the first (non-surgical) varicose vein operation in March 1999.
Professor Mark Whiteley is one of a handful of UK doctors who specialises in treating only veins. Most doctors who treat veins are arterial (vascular) surgeons or radiologists, who only treat veins as a sideline. Mark performed the first endovenous surgery in the UK, invented TRLOP for perforating veins (2001), set up the College of Phlebology (2011), performed the first microwave varicose veins treatment in the UK (February 2019) and is bringing new vein treatments to the UK in 2019.
Mark is internationally recognised as an expert in varicose veins and pelvic congestion syndrome (pelvic varicose veins).
