Basil's practice is broad and encompasses the whole spectrum of private client onshore and offshore-based work. His clients range from landed estates with the deepest of roots in the UK to those with no connections to the UK at all. Basil frequently advises individuals, families, trustees, family offices and estate managers on matters relating to complex onshore and offshore tax planning, the establishment and use of trusts and other structures, family governance and conflict of laws.

The Legal 500 UK 2020 ranks Basil as a 'Future Generation Partner,' describing him as 'particularly cogent in his analysis of problems and consequent distillation of advice'. Previous accolades include Lawyer of the Year – Partner at the Citywealth Future Leaders Awards, and eprivateclient Top 35 Under 35 Private Client Adviser.

Having studied at Oxford University, Basil trained at Allen & Overy LLP and worked at Maurice Turnor Gardner LLP before joining Payne Hicks Beach.

Qualified in September 2009, he joined Payne Hicks Beach in November 2014, was promoted to associate in 2015, and partner in 2016.
